The Fairy-tale		Name: Hansel and Gretel
What happens? A poor woodcutter and his wife had two children named Hansel and Gretel. Their mother died when they were young. Hansel and Gretel were very sad. Soon their father remarried but their stepmother was very cruel. One day, she took the children deep into the forest and left them there. Clever Hansel had some breadcrumbs in his pocket and had dropped them on the way so that they could find their way back home. Alas! The birds ate all the crumbs and they couldn't find the path that led back home. Hansel and Gretel went deeper and deeper into the forest. They were hungry and tired. Finally, after walking for a long time, they saw a cottage made of chocolate, candies, and cake. “Look, Hansel! A chocolate brick!” shouted Gretel in delight and both ate it hungrily. Now, a wicked witch lived there. When she saw Hansel and Gretel, she wanted to eat them. She grabbed the chil­dren and locked them in a cage. The witch decided to make a soup out of Hansel and eat him first. She began boiling a huge pot of water for the soup. Just then, Gretel crept out of her cage. She gave the wicked witch a mighty push from behind and the witch fell into the boiling water. She howled in pain and died instantly. Hansel and Gretel found treasure lying around the cottage. They carried it home with them. Their stepmother had died and their father wel­comed them back with tears of joy. They never went hungry again!
The Modern Twist
What happens? Hansel and Gretel’s mother died when they were younger, now father is close to dying in hospital, however their step mother wants money and the full will, therefore she has to get rid of the children. Agrees to send children to the woods to be dealt with by assassins, and says they ran away and are missing. they kill Hansel but Gretel survives and found her way home. Got to police station, step mother is arrested, now looking for assassin.

 Hansel and Gretel

I chose this story as I know it quite well due to it being involved in my childhood a lot. I like this story and I would find it quite interesting to put a modern twist on it.

The original story is about a family, a father, two twin children and a step mother. The father and step mother have money issues and she decides it’s a good idea to get rid of the children. She made the father take them into the forest, Hansel dropped pebbles every now then then. Hansel and Gretel then followed the pebbles back home. The step mother was furious and sent them back again, this time Hansel left break crumbs, however the birds ate them and they couldn't find their way home. They were lost. They came across a candy house, inside lived a old witch who was very kind to the twins. She fed them up with sweets and cakes, but they didn't know she was fattening them up to eat them. Hansel got rather large, just as the witch went to put him in the over, Gretel pushed her in and shut the door. The children were hesitant to go back home, until their dad said that their old stepmother was dead! They lived happily ever after.
